Praxis continues its sponsorship of Olympic hurdling hopeful, Alastair Chalmers
Praxis is proud to announce the continuation of its sponsorship of Guernsey-born athlete, Alastair (Ala) Chalmers.
Our long-term support of the 400m hurdler began in 2018 and has enabled Ala to train and compete up to Commonwealth Games-level in Birmingham in August 2022, when his third place saw him win the first ever track and field medal for Guernsey.
Last year saw his success continue when Ala won his fourth consecutive British Championship and broke a 12-year record to take Gold at the NatWest Guernsey Island Games in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
With Praxis’ ongoing support, Ala now has his sights set on the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer and as part of his preparation, he has embarked on a month-long training camp in the US, running in two competitions stateside before heading back for some European competitions.
In June, Ala is hoping to compete in the Rome Europeans and the British Championships with the goal of retaining his national title and qualifying for the Olympics in August.
‘Securing Praxis’ ongoing support as I head into this crucial year is incredible,’ said Ala. ‘I’m very thankful to have worked with such a supportive sponsor over the last five years and hope to do Praxis and all my supporters proud this summer.’
Group CEO of Praxis, Rob Fearis, said: 'We are very proud of Ala and what he has achieved, and were thrilled to have had a front row seat in Guernsey last year to watch him win Gold at the Island Games. We wish him the best of luck this season as he makes his Olympic bid'.
