Ben joined Praxis in January 2025 as a Safety and Security Manager in our Yacht Services team.
History
Ben started his career by completing a cadetship with a large passenger ship company, through which he obtained a foundation degree in Nautical Science along with his UK Certificate of Competency. Since then, he has worked both at sea and ashore. Most recently he held the position of Deputy DPA and Deputy CSO for a Yacht Management Company in the UK, where he was responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the yachts under their management.
Roles and responsibilities
As Safety & Security Manager, Ben’s role is to assist the DPA in ensuring the effective implementation and maintenance of the Safety Management System in compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. His responsibilities include providing guidance to crew on safety-related matters, ensuring compliance with the various safety and environmental regulations, liaising with flag states and classification societies, ensuring the validity of all yacht certification and assisting in the organisation of surveys and inspections.
Furthermore, his role will involve ensuring compliance with the International Ship & Port Facility (ISPS) Code, developing and maintaining the vessel's Ship Security Plan, conducting ship security assessments, coordinating drills and training, and liaising with the crew, port authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the secure operation of the vessel.
